what is Flow Pilates?

Flow Pilates is a form of clinical pilates, with a focus on technique and muscle isolation.

It is an extremely effective exercise method. It works to improve the strength of deep abdominals, shoulder girdle and the spine; core stability, improving and targeting posture problems, encouraging good breathing patterns and correcting whole body alignment of joints and muscles. This means you are less prone to injury or wear and tear and will see improved flow of movement and ability in other sports and exercises. Flow Pilates will help you to understand your body functions, how to isolate muscles and improve your mental focus.

Some health issues may need the confirmation from your GP before starting class. For further advice just email me at laura@flowpilateshythe.com.

u

HOW MUCH IS THE CLASS?

Each class is £8 for the hour. Payments are due at the beginning of the 6-8 week term. You are always welcome to take off up to two classes a term for holidays and classes missed can be made up at another time in that term. I run 7 classes a week so hopefully you are able to join another day, see my full schedule.

u

How long is the class?

One class is an hour long. It includes 10-15 minutes warm up and 10-15 minutes cool down, stretch and relaxation session to finish. Each move is developed and progressions given accordingly working through out the term to achieve them.

u

Can I come if I haven't done any pilates before?

Yes you are very welcome to join with no experience in pilates as most classes are adapted for beginners to intermediates with each individual working at their own pace and ability. However I do recommend you have a one to one if possible to take you through the basics principles before joining a bigger group.

u

What is a one to one and how much does it cost?

A one to one is a personalised session introducing you to pilates and how it can help your body. If you choose to do a course of sessions they will be adapted to your postural problems or any issues you have. It’s a great way to understand your body and lead you into a group session.

One to ones are £50 or you can book 6 sessions in advance for £40 each.

For small group sessions there is an extra charge of £10 per extra person.

u

How many people in a class?

Each class is only a max of 8 -12 people. Small class numbers are a very important part of clinical pilates as I am able to give more one on one help and assistance, encouraging correct alignment so each person can get the most benefit from the class.

u

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO DO PILATES AT A SLOW PACE?

When you concentrate on slow controlled movement patterns you are focusing on using your stabilising muscles around any joint. If you work at a fast pace your mobilising muscle take over the movement. Pilates focuses on strengthening the stabilises in your core and working slowly is the most effective way to get them active and strong.

Pilates breathing is also known as lateral breathing and is an important part of the practice. Adding it into your flow of movement, breathing wide and full into the lungs using your diaphragm to expand and increase lung capacity. In doing so you will also feel the benefits of stress relief.

u

WHEN WILL I SEE OR FEEL THE BENEFITS OF DOING REGULAR PILATES?

Pilates is a great stress relief so you could feel the benefits even after just one class but to really make a difference to your body function and alignment it is important to be doing it on a regular basis. Which is why committing to a term is so important. A great way to tell is to take pictures of your posture before you begin regular pilates and see the difference. Depending on how many times a week you are able to do it you can hope to see a positive effect after just one term.
